Cosmetology [Beauty] school and High School?

There's this girl in my grade who goes to Beauty school like two times a week and when she goes she takes half a day of regular classes and then leaves for beauty school.

I want to go to become a hair stylish.

What is this called?

What would qualify me for this?

How can I find one near me?

I would just ask her but we're not friends and I want to sign up asap, not wait to see her in school.

Any and all answers are appreciated X].

Thanks in advanced.Cosmetology [Beauty] school and High School?
It sounds like it could be a vocational technology (vo-tech) cosmetology class. A lot of cosmetology schools offer programs like this to help high school students get an edge on a career in cosmetology.

Most cosmetology programs require that you be at least 16 years of age. Talk to your school counselor about this program and the possibility of enrolling.

Below is a link to a site where you can find all the cosmetology/beauty schools in your area. There is also a link to the Beauty School Lounge, where you can network with other beauty students, teachers and professionals to learn more about the beauty industry.

I hope this helps!

Beauty/Cosmetology School ........?

I'm thinking of enrolling in a Beauty or Cosmetology School..... A little older than most, approaching 30 soon. I am looking to change careers and possibly start my own job. I would like to get some feed back regarding this career. Is it really something that you can learn, or do you have to born with these skills? Is it affordable? And if you started your own Business (Beauty Salon) was it too overwhelming or expensive, or do you just need a good loan and lots of fresh great ideas to attract customers.......Beauty/Cosmetology School ........?
If you have a legit interest and passion in the beauty industry - you have what it takes :)

Being older than the average student is a plus, because you will have more years of experience working with people, and clients tend to trust you more. An interesting fact we learned is that 50% + of your future clientele will be based on how you bond/interact and form relationships with your clients, and not your skills.

I wasn't a natural or born with skills, and most people aren't either. I had to work hard. Practice really makes perfect in this industry. It helps that I am a perfectionist and am really interested in beauty/fashion.

It is expensive. My school was 13 grand. Starting your own business would be expensive too, but you could always start a mobile business or run a small beauty shop out of your home.

Ive been wanting to start a business of beauty consulting without having a cosmetology degree or fashion.?

I have great talent and have helped many women in general. I have an eye for this and many people have confirmed it and already come to me for help on their looks. SHould i go ahead and start a business in this without having certifications to back me up? i have a degree in marketing which is something eventhough it doesn't have exactly to do with beauty products i chose that degree because it would help me with every business that i choose to do. My question is, do you guys suggest i persue this business or focus more into the retail business in general? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Beforehand for all your help.Ive been wanting to start a business of beauty consulting without having a cosmetology degree or fashion.?
you can do the fashion part regardless - as far as needing the cosmetology license goes, legally you can not apply the makeup without a license. You can tell people what to use, and how to apply it, but you can't actually apply any of it.

So, a cosmetology license certainly isn't a requirement, but you can surely see how it'd make your job much easier, and potentially more profitable. I know if I was coming to someone for makeup advice, I'd want them to show me, not just tell me.Ive been wanting to start a business of beauty consulting without having a cosmetology degree or fashion.?
it would be better to be certified since you do like doing this. you can own the business but will not be able to work on customers with out a license that's the law. if you go full time it takes 9 months partime a yr %26amp; a half which ever you choose is the best thing is to be certified. i dont know if this is wat you were planning on doing but banks will be more willing to loan to someone with certification in the business they're trying to establish.
go and do it if that will make you happy. all you have to do is employ someone who is qualified and get them to teach you a the trade while you work together. plenty of people do it and there businesses are success-full just pretend you are know one will ever know how hard can it be?
You have to be certified in the state your business is located or you could be shut down.
As long as you aren't actually doing the ';hands on';, you're cool. You don't need a cosmo degree to hire those who do.

What are some careers you could consider that has to do with beauty? Besides cosmetology?

Cosmetology is a wide field. Hair, makeup, nails...makeup in itself has tons of variety, from working in a salon to doing special effects on movies. What are some careers you could consider that has to do with beauty? Besides cosmetology?
^ Isn't that cosmetology? (Marty)

Try modeling? What are some careers you could consider that has to do with beauty? Besides cosmetology?
Modeling, Advertising, Porno????
You could be a hairstylist or manicurist.
Work for a cosmetic surgeon. People will always want their services.
a make-up artist for movies/tv.
Hitwoman. No one would suspect a pretty girl to be a cold blooded killer

Currently attending cosmetology school and wondering how much money it cost to open a beauty salon.?

and if a business degree is necessary?thanxCurrently attending cosmetology school and wondering how much money it cost to open a beauty salon.?
a business degree is not necessary, however business know-how IS necessary and also management skills.

definitely work in a salon for a good amount of time, both as a hairdresser and a receptionist before you start your business ventures. you dont want to end up having to close down due to your own inexperience.

Do you go to Cosmetology/Beauty School before or after college?

I wanna be a makeup artist, do I go to a University first, finish my 4 years of college, THEN go to beauty school? What degree should I get in regular college, then?

    Sorry I'm really comfused lol

    Thanks

Also, how long do you go to beauty school? And is like a college, and you have a dorm there, or do you like go during the day and you can live in an apartment off campus or something

By the way I'm thinking of going to UCLA for college and Marinello School of Beauty (the one in Downtown LA,) for beauty school.

Thanks againDo you go to Cosmetology/Beauty School before or after college?
Why would you have to get a bachelors degree first? (Four years of college) Normally, to become a cosmetologist, you take classes at a college that either specializes in cosmetology, or one that offers cosmetology as a course. Usually, it takes about a year to complete. After finished with your classes, you'll take a test in order to receive your beauty license. I don't believe you have to have any prior training or college experience. Each school has different requirements. Check into universities you're interested in and request information or go in and talk to somebody who works there. You'll probably get all the information you need from them.

Unless you want to major in another career (Teacher, accountant, etc.) you wouldn't have to take any other classes aside from cosmetology or graduate from a college. I would recommend taking cosmetology on the side. It's hard to make a living off in that career, though not impossible. I don't know the specifics of attending two colleges at once. Ask about it at either of the schools your intersted in.Do you go to Cosmetology/Beauty School before or after college?
You don't need to go to College, But you can if you want.Anything to do with Cosmetology, You go to a Cosmetology School. Like if you wanted to be a instructor, You would take the Cosmetology Instructor course. Cos, School is a year, depending on the hours.

Cosmetology School is what you would want to go to(Don't take courses at a College, really...It won't probley be as thorough as a real Cos. School.). They don't have dorms, as it's more like a trade School then a real college. But your still graded and treated like students.

    Cosmetology/beauty school in California?

Anyone personally been to a good cosmetology school in either the Sacramento or San Diego area? I've definately heard of the Paul Mitchel schools, but how are they really, and what (if any) other schools are good? I just recently got my New York license, and while I know there is no reciprocity, does anyone know if (in general) schools accept transfer hours from out of state? I know I could call schools up and ask, but I guess I'm just asking generally speaking to get a start in the right direction, then further my search. Thanks in advance for any advice!Cosmetology/beauty school in California?
hmm try tha Marinello school of Beauty

    Beauty School-Cosmetology School?

I'm looking into going to beauty\cosmetology. What kind of training do you need to get? Can you make OK money if you own a salon?Beauty School-Cosmetology School?
It depends on what state you're in. In California where I am you have to do 1600 hours at a certified cosmetology school or program at a college, and pass the state exam. It also depends on what services you specialize in. It takes a lot of money to own a salon and time to build steady clientel. I suggest you work at a a la carte salon (like Great Clips) first and get more training and some work experience under your belt. It's a steady paycheck and you don't have to pay booth rental or pay for your own backbar. You can save money to eventually own your own salon and have work experience before you branch out on your own. If you are willing to work hard and bust your but to make a name for yourself, you can make excellent money. Positive attitude and professional appearance are key. Leave personal problems/life at the door, smile, make people feel welcome, don't get caught up in the salon gossip or he said she said bs and you'll be fine.Beauty School-Cosmetology School?
i went to college to get my training, but you have to be a high school graduate or have a GED to go to college. In Texas you have to have 1,000 hours..then you go to Austin to take your final text....i have made money just working for someone else in a shop.you can also rent a station in a salon which I did for 7 years, butyou will have to send and get a independant operators licence...if you do not ave a GED or graduated high school, you cangoto a brauty school, but you will get a better education in a college, plus you will gain college hours. When I took my trainig I got 33 college hours and made the deans list, and that does help you ore than you know,it opens a lot of ways to be eligible for other lines of work if you decide you don,t like doing hair, but I have always loved it.

It might be a Tech High School, because as far as I know, You need to be 16 (or 17, depending on the state.)with a HSD or GED to even go to Cos. School...The requirements are different at every school and state. Just ask the girl, or go to your guidance counselor
talk to your school councilor about getting into the program. you might have to wait until next year, or when a new semester of beauty school starts.

Good cosmetology/ beauty schools in NYC?

Frederick School of Cosmetology is the one that I would have to say. Good Luck!

Which Beauty school is better? Tony Galvez cosmetology school or Franck Provost CAS school?

I plan want to work in showbiz and in international beauty companies as a makeup artist.Which Beauty school is better? Tony Galvez cosmetology school or Franck Provost CAS school?
Unless someone has been to both schools, It's impossible to know which school is better. It could be the same, or one could be better, or not. What you should do is go in and take a tour, and ask questions. Pick a school that fits you, But is also professional. The way the students work can tell you alot about the school.

Also, If you want to work in the 'showbiz' that's all on you. YOU have to make that happen by keeping yourself educated, and getting experiance. The school does not matter.

Yes, definitely one of the best choices if you are going to be in that field, rather than just Esthetics or just Nail Tech, bc you'll be licensed to do all of it: nails, hair, makeup, skin....

One of my coworkers is trying to convince me to quit or take the night program that they offer for it. Could anyone recommend me a GREAT Cosmetology Class?
hairdressers make damn good money if you work 10.00 a haircut and it takes 15 min per cut. thats 40.00 an hour at 8 hours a day 320.00 a day work 5 days 1600 a week. as for schools i would check out the yellow pages. it really doesn't matter what school you go to.. you have to have so many credit hours to go to state board. where they decide if you get your llisence or not. and you will get a text book that tells you exactly what to do
    The one people go to.

If beauty consulting is your passion then you can pursue that business once you have confirmed that you have a market for it. Of course, certificates and degrees related to beauty and fashion can definitely help add to your credibility as beauty consultant. But since you took marketing, I suggest you just hire a beauty consultant who have all the degrees and certificates, then focus your efforts on promoting your business. Even if you're in marketing, the fact that you have great talent for beauty consulting gives you leverage as you promote your services to potential clients.

Does Empire Beauty teach make up in the cosmetology program?

Just wondering, please only answer if you know. Thank you.Does Empire Beauty teach make up in the cosmetology program?
All Cosmetology School teaches make up. It's part of the course.

Do you know of any Cosmetology programs? Beauty schools? and what is your opinon on them?

I am thinking about going to school for cosmetology (you know, hair, nails, makeup- all of the sort). I've heard of some good schools, such as Empire Beauty School and Paul Mitchelle schools.

Does anyone know which one is ';better'; or of any other types of beauty schools? I am willing to travel (as long as it's inside the United States).

Please give me ANY advice or opinions you may have! I am willing to hear new ideas as well! :)

Thanks!Do you know of any Cosmetology programs? Beauty schools? and what is your opinon on them?
Don't go to Empire Beauty School, The schools are very disorganized and a mess and have pretty much reuined schools across the board.....Vidal Sassoon, Aveda and Paul Mitchell are all good schools...

Does anyone know if MKC beauty academy of Elite progressive school of cosmetology are good beauty schools?

I'm interested in becoming a professional make-up artist for fashion shoots, runways, and movies but I'm not sure which school is best for that. I researched MKC and they said they teach you everything in 10 weeks, which seems a bit short for becoming a professional make-up artist. But maybe I'm wrong. I'm also wondering if Elite is a good school. If not, which one (in California ) is good???? thank youDoes anyone know if MKC beauty academy of Elite progressive school of cosmetology are good beauty schools?
I'm not sure, but I would instead look into a less expensive (sounds expensive anyway :) school for make-up artistry such as the local county vo-tech school(s). They tend to be a lot more affordable than those private schools.

Perhaps you can see if that school is accredited by the industry, however, if there is a vo-tech program rather closeby, that sounds more practical. Good luck to you!

Do you need to have a cosmetology license to open a new beauty salon in Mass? I wont perform any work on cust.?

Yes. Alot of people open their own Salon without a license. You just can't touch the clients.Do you need to have a cosmetology license to open a new beauty salon in Mass? I wont perform any work on cust.?
It will depend on your state, but I think you can own this business without the cosmotology liscense.

But since you must ensure all are liscensed, you wont know if the employees are doing the right and safest proceedures, and if they are not doing things right, you the owner will get the sitations and heavy fines for the rules your not keeping in place, because you dont know them.

If someone drips bleach in someones eye, you will have to get them to the hospital and you will be paying thier bills and you will get sued, so if your unaware of the safest known practices with all these new to you employees, you really put yourself at risk by not being liscenced.

What's the difference between beauty school and cosmetology school?

There really is no significant difference between the two. They are synonymous. Beauty school and cosmetology school are essentially the same thing, and they may offer programs ranging from comprehensive cosmetology to more specific nail technology, esthetics and skincare, makeup artistry, hair design, etc. Are you interested in attending beauty/cosmetology school? What's the difference between beauty school and cosmetology school?
It depends. In some cases hair schools and beauty schools are identical. However, there are many beauty schools that offer a variety of programs, and hair may only be one of them. That's why regardless of a how a school labels themselves, it's always best to simply ask the school what type of programs and courses they offerWhat's the difference between beauty school and cosmetology school?
There isn't a difference. Beauty School is a old fashion word for Cosmetology School.

Does anyone know of a cosmetology/beauty school that doesn't require a high school diploma?

I'm sorry to say that I don't really know anything about cosmetology or beauty schools, but I did do a quick check and didn't see any that meet your criteria.

What I would suggest, if you would prefer not to have to get your High School Diploma, is that you work on getting your GED.

You normally wouldn't have to attend school for this. There are some classes you could take to help make sure you know everything you'll need to know, but it won't be like going back to school.

Having a GED is about the same thing as having a High School diploma in most cases, so that's probably your best bet.

Thinking about going to school for beauty, cosmetology school... well I am 33, is that to late? ?

how long does it usually take to build clientele?Thinking about going to school for beauty, cosmetology school... well I am 33, is that to late? ?
NO thats not too old, when i went there were lots of mature students on my course! i think the oldest one was 45yrs so dont worry!

clientele building will basically depend on how many people you know and start by doing their hair, they will recommemd you to their friends/family and it snowballs from there.......... if you advertise that help to.......Thinking about going to school for beauty, cosmetology school... well I am 33, is that to late? ?
No way is it too late!!!! Go for it :)

Once you're qualified and confident that you can go it alone I doubt it will take very long. Start off with your friends and family who will spread the word. You could drop leaflets in your area and maybe set up a website with all your prices and the treatments you offer. You could initially have special offers and discounts to attract people who will hopefully come back again!

Good luck with it all! x
Is that all?? You're far from being too old to study. No one is to old to study if they really want to. You have a dream, go fo it. In years to come you'll look back and be so proud of yourself instead of feeling angry that you never even tried.
Noo wayy it's not to late. At least your realising what you want to do. this is funny coz my granny was 55 when she started studying to be a midwife. needless to say she heard so much Shiiiiit from so many people. Follow your dreams ! good luck!!!
I don't really know how long it takes to build a '; clientele'; because I have no idea what that is. But if it's something you want to do you shouldn't let your age stop you!
If your good which I'm sure you are ;) you can probably apply and be someones apprentice.
its never too late to learn more.

as for the clientele, i have heard it takes at least 2 years for a business to start making profit
It's not too late. I'm 53 and I'm going to massage therapy school starting this month...........33? You have you're whole life ahead of you....the best years are yet to come.........
it's never to late to live out your dream. Just have faith
It's never too late to do something that you've always wanted to do. Go for it!

    never to late ;)
if you're good it shouldnt take long.

If you are looking for a top notch beauty school or cosmetology school in Ohio, The Ohio Academy is one of the best schools. There is a location in Twinsburg, Ohio which services Ohio and Indiana... They also just opened another school in Columbus, Ohio. According to their website, http://www.theohioacademy.com/html/locations/index.cfm, it is near Westerville, Ohio. I am not sure about New York but I would imagine that it is relatively close to take classes there.

Beauty school is not like college. Each state has it's own rules reguarding cosmetologist.(hours you must have before taking the state board test.) I'm a hairstylist in wisconsin if i go to anotheer state I might have to go back to school. It all depends on that state hours not credits. You should find out what the hours are for the state you're moving to first.

Are their in state and out of state tuition costs for beauty/cosmetology school?

I am from Michigan but am thinking about moving to Georgia really soon. I was just wondering if beauty/cosmetology schools have in state and out of state tuition costs like colleges and universities? Please tell me!

Also... I want to go to a good one such as Tigi, Douglas J Aveda or Paul Mitchell... If you know of any other good ones in the Atlanta area, please let me know. I will NOT start off working at Boric's or Fantastic Sam's.Are their in state and out of state tuition costs for beauty/cosmetology school?
Most of that last answer is absolute nonsense!! True, you don't get advanced training in beauty school. Some schools actually have good teachers and good color programs...I have some friends that teach at schools in CA. You are smart to not want to work at a chain salon! And you shouldn't think you have to. Try to find a salon, with a good reputation, that has an extensive training program. It's a lot more learning and training but it's far more advanced than cosmetology school. That's how I started out and it was hard work because you're usually an assistant to a stylist but it's so beneficial in the long run!

Also, check into cosmetology programs at local community colleges....it might be cheaper. You really want to get your experience at a salon so I wouldn't be too worried about choosing ';the best'; school. After you graduate try to get a job assisting a stylist at a successful, established salon. You will learn so much more!! And don't worry if you don't use a ';foil board';....nobody that is good at color does anymore :)Are their in state and out of state tuition costs for beauty/cosmetology school?
I don't think so because its not a public school (part of the state)
Well I hate to break it to you, but franchise salons are the only ones that will hire you when you graduate. In cosmetology school you learn the very basics, you don't learn to use a foil board for example, something that almost all stylists do. Also, whatever state you go to school in, that is where you have to work, cosmetology is state regulated, and all states have different requirements. If you want to transfer you may have to go back to school for up to a year and take your boards over again. If you want to really be good, go to Iowa, they have the most hours and strictest requirements in the United States. They take continuing education even afterward to keep it up. Their system is just better than the cosmetology education system anywhere else in the country. There is a standard text to which everyone in the United States takes their State Board exams, so I hate to break it to you, you learn the same thing from the same book from ever school in the United States, cosmetology school doesn't work like regular Universities. There is not in state and out of state tuition, by the way. When you graduate, you will have hardly any real experience, clients do not want you, so neither do salons. Aveda is supposed to be the best school in the country, I had my hair cut by an Aveda stylist and it was the worst haircut I ever got. Aveda and Paul Mitchell schools graduates work at Fantastic Sam's, sorry t burst your bubble. The key to actually learning a lot is going to hair shows and workshops, work for a while and go to master classes. I don't now where people get this idea that you know a lot after your graduate, school is mostly theory, you sit in class with your textbook and listen, and sit around waiting for people to show up who actually trust you to cut their hair, and in 10-15 months you really don't get hardly any experience coloring. Half of all cosmetology school graduates in the USA have done fewer than 5 colors when they graduate, you just don't get t do a lot, not many people trust students with color. I also have to warn you, most of what goes on in school is men's and kids cuts, because it is cheap and parents won't take those terrors anywhere else, oh yeah, and old ladies.
